Ford Motor Company a présenté, à quelque jours de l’inénarrable Super Bowl de ce weekend, la nouvelle génération du pickup Ford Raptor ! A new three-inch equal-length exhaust system features a patent-pending built-in X-pipe, unique “trombone loop” and first-for-Raptor active valves. The system takes advantage of a true pass-through muffler design that improves sound quality. Customers can configure four sound level modes – Quiet, Normal, Sport and Baja.

It is reengineered with an all-new five-link rear suspension developed specifically for Raptor, designed to deliver more control and power to the ground with greater confidence over rough terrain at high speeds.

Among its competitors of BFGoodrich (Benjamin Franklin Goodrich) were Goodyear, Firestone, General and Uniroyal. Due to extensive research and scientific methods, such as tire wear evaluation and longevity testing, BFGoodrich was at the leading edge of the industry.

Ford Motor Company, then owned by Henry Ford, chose BFGoodrich tires to be fitted in the new Model A Ford in 1903. That same year, the Model A, equipped with the tires, became the first car to cross the United States from east to west.

Raptor is available with either 35-inch or 37-inch tires – the largest factory-fitted to a production light-duty full-size pickup. These specially designed BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires offer maximum traction and handling.

Wearing 35-inch tires, Raptor clears 12-inch obstacles with an approach angle of 31 degrees, maximum departure angle of 23.9 degrees and breakover angle of 22.7 degrees.

Raptor with 37-inch tires features 13.1 inches of running clearance, 33.1 degrees of approach angle, a maximum 24.9 degrees of departure angle and 24.4 degrees of breakover angle.

Desert runners and rock crawlers alike will appreciate the outstanding wheel travel with 35-inch tires, reaching 14 inches at the front and 15 inches at the rear – 25 percent more travel than the first-generation Raptor.

High-output, gas-pressurized, electronically controlled, continuously variable compression damping FOX Racing Shox, 3.1-inch damper, 0.875-inch rod diameter (standard), 1.0-inch rod diameter with 37-inch tires.

Fox ?

In 1974, Bob Fox ran a small business distributing suspension components for motocross bikes with his brother Geoff. In 1977, the company split into what became Fox Racing and Fox Head, Inc. under Geoff Fox, and Bob Fox’s Fox Racing Shox parts production company, Fox Factory. A holding company, Fox Factory Holding, was established in 1978. Fox Factory produces suspension components for motorcycles, automobiles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, and mountain bikes.

Pressing a button on the steering wheel is so much easier. Like the previous generation of Raptor, there are three modes you can use to dial in how Live Valve makes the shocks feel: Normal, Sport, and Off-Road.

Live Valve technology continuously and intelligently adjusts compression damping in real-time to deliver the ideal ride for any terrain or driving situation.

By utilizing various vehicle sensors and accelerometers, the shocks can instantaneously adapt to inertial, steering, braking, and acceleration inputs to actively maximize handling, comfort, and bottom-out resistance.

FOX’s patented and race-proven external bypass design provides position-sensitive damping that ramps up as the shock travels further in the stroke. At ride height, fluid is allowed to freely bypass the main damping piston to deliver a plush, compliant ride in light terrain.

Transitional compression zones progressively decrease bypass flow for a smooth increase in damping as the shock travels further in the stroke. Hydraulic bump and rebound catch zones at full compression and extension prevent harsh bottoming and top-outs. The result is comfortable and controlled ride with extreme off-road performance.

TORque SENsing

La transmission automatique à 10 vitesses construite par Ford et améliorée par des commandes de nouvelle génération est boulonnée à un boîtier de transfert de couple à la demande innovant. Un différentiel arrière à blocage électronique de série et un différentiel avant à glissement limité TORSEN (Torque-Sensing).

A standard electronic locking rear differential and available TORSEN front limited-slip differential are fitted with 4:10 final drive ratios. Maximum payload increases by 200 pounds, to 1400 pounds, while maximum towing also increases 200 pounds, to 8200 pounds of conventional towing.

Gleason Works, fabricant américain de pignons et engrenages, a déposé la marque Torsen, pour ‘TORque SENsing’, utilisant une vis sans fin, principe inventé au milieu du XXe siècle par l’ingénieur américain Vernon Gleasman.

The hood has a new heat extractor and functional side vents at the top trailing edge of the fender, all inspired by the intakes of the F-22 Raptor fighter jet.

Aggressive front fenders emulate the windswept look of dust billowing off the top of the tires at high speed. The same concept extends to the rear, with blacked-out taillights and available tailgate appliqué creating visual fender-to-fender width.

Raptor naming?

By 1990 Lockheed Martin, teamed with Boeing and General Dynamics, had built and flown the demonstration prototype aircraft, designated YF-22. The first F-22 fighter aircraft was unveiled in April 1997 and was given the name Raptor.

A wider front skid plate offers greater coverage side-to-side and extends protection forward.

Durable steel front and rear bumpers are built for the rigors of off-roading, with the rear bumper retaining the high-clearance design that tucks the dual exhaust tips high up against the truck.


Available Rigid off-road lighting mounted in the front bumper helps drivers illuminate even the darkest night.

Available in SuperCrew configuration on a 145-inch wheelbase, Raptor features a fully boxed high-strength steel frame with a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy and composite body. The more capable suspension, stronger, taller shock towers and rear control arm mounting points serve to withstand punishing off-road use.

Pro Power Onboard giving them the ability to use their truck as a mobile generator. Raptor can be ordered with an available 2.0 kilowatts of exportable output to run power tools, camp lights and other equipment, providing more exportable power than any light-duty full-size pickup competitor.

The Terrain Management System’s seven selectable drive modes allow customers to choose the setting best suited to driving conditions, including Slippery, Tow/Haul, Sport, Normal, Off-Road, Baja and Rock Crawl.

Drive modes adjust steering feel, transfer case behavior, stability control, active valve exhaust, active damping system, throttle mapping and transmission shift points, as well as the display on the digital gauge cluster.
